This Waltz is an extended version of the Little Waltz in G minor. The A sections are the same as in the Little Waltz but the overall form is now ABACA with extended and more complicated B and C sections both of which have the melody in the LH (as does the Little Waltz).

The reading can be challenging, with frequent clef changes and ledger lines. The LH in m. 17-20 is notated in bass clef which necessitates ledger lines but it shows, visually, where the melody is going.

No fingering is provided. Fingering can be a rather personal choice, and a pianist capable of playing on this technical level is expected to be able to come up with their own fingering.

The biggest technical challenge in the B and C sections is probably RH crossing (quickly) over LH. Possible simplifications for m. 17-20 could be to play the top note of the big LH chords with the RH (which is used to having to move quickly anyway …).

Musical / interpretation challenges would be to not let the technical challenge get in the way of making big, sweeping music, bringing out the melody, and bending the tempo “just so” – at the right time, and often subtly.

This waltz probably works best for an early advanced pianist who has a feel for dramatic piano music, who is a good reader, and who has experience moving all over the keyboard, quickly at times.
