Short but highly dramatic and passionate. The technical difficulty of this Toccata lies in the wide leaps for both hands at the beginning of most measures – LH up, RH down. While the reading is pretty straight-forward and there are no harmonic surprises, this Toccata needs a pianist who is thoroughly familiar with the keyboard and feels at ease moving quickly. Pedal is needed to help create the drama but could be tricky because of the step-wise motion of the melody. Level 8
